Origionally I'd planned to build Void 3.0 after Void 2.1, however I had a number of problems with the design, forcing me to go back to the drawing board on a lot of the design, and so I decided to build a new version of Void 2 to tide me over. The basic components were kept the same as in 2.1, however the chassis design was changed, using 1 2mm polycarb strut in the centre rather than multiple peices of 1mm, to save weight and make it stronger. I also removed the servo (SD200) boards from the servo housing, cut the servos down, and mounted them back to back opposite to each other, which gave me enough room to double the width of the wheels (from 12.5 to 25mm), which gave me a lot of extra grip. I also redid the electronics, all in the front half of the robot, running the 2 SD200 boards direct from the battery, so upping the voltage for the drive from 6v to 8.4 from previous versions. This gave me a nice lot of extra speed and push. I also re-did the wheel guards, making proper ones that were attached at both the front and back, instead of the expanding ones I'd had in 2.1. This made the robot much stronger against side attacks, and also improved the overall rigidity of the chassis. Apart from these things, most of the design was kept pretty similar. Void 2.2 did quite well, Winning RRC3, however due to a problem in how I'd speed modded one of the servos, it stripped many, many sets of gears, and with every competition it was becoming more and more worn down, less and less powerful. Eventually, after hardly being able to lift robots 5cm off the ground, I decided it was time I let Void 2.x rest, and built Void 3.0.
