Information:
Void was my first attempt at an ant, and did a lot better than I expected it too, Although I put that down to now being drawn against a Waller machine until the final, hehe. I'd had various ideas about the design and stuff, and about a week beforehand I'd just settled on a standard wedge/flipper design. I worked on building it all week, and I finally got it finished about 8pm on the night before the event, and I tested it. Disaster. The way the flipper was designed it had no structural strength, and even with it, the connection was so close to the hinge it had no power to lift anything anyway, So, at 10 pm the night before the event, I went back to the drawing board. I worked solidly on it until about 5am, until I finally got it finished, and driving it around the table and flipping over various things. I wen't straight to bed, and then had to get up at 8am the next morning for the event, god I was tired, but the adrenaline kept me going all day. The thought behind the design I eventually came up with was that I wanted it to be able to flip things (obviously), but also be invertible, and still be able to flip when it was inverted, and so Void was born.
